Inside the classroom.
E: Hello everyone! Before we start the lesson, I’d like to
invite you to an upcoming DCEC activity this month
(directing the learners’attention to the Japanese
announcement on the board).
（Shin jumped for joy upon reading the outdoor lesson.）
S: Yes! (motioning like he won a game) I am always looking
forward to DCEC’s outdoor lesson.
M: What is an outdoor lesson? I’m completely clueless.
E: OK, I will initially explain the outdoor lesson for Mai
then Shin and Shoji, please give me a hand.
S and Sh: Count on us!
E: In lieu of the regular classroom lesson, we’ll have the
outdoor lesson. As the name implies, the lesson is done
outside DCEC. The learners are grouped at specified date
and time. The main purpose is for students to have an
English lesson in a very relaxed atmosphere.
S: In addition, it is a good venue to meet amiable students,
governesses and governors and staff in DCEC.
Sh: Outdoor lesson is full of fun and games, you wouldn’t
twiddle your thumbs.
S: Two years ago, we had it in a park. I' ll never forget
the funny game ‘spot the difference' as one governess
wore a wig with a mole, a Marilyn Monroe copycat.
That was hilarious!
Sh: We had the outdoor lesson in a Japanese style bar (Izakaya),
I enjoyed chatting with other learners and governesses.
One of the games was about countries and its capital cities.
I have a flair for it. Plus the beer liked me very much!
(an irony meaning he likes beer very much).
E: So what do you think Mai? Do these guys have good convincing
powers?
M: Err. (with a quavering voice) I think I am gonna pass,
I’m too shy (there is a dearth of courage on her face).
Sh: Your shyness will just be ephemeral, you’ll be inspired by
others who really tried their best. Also, after a few rounds
of beer, you’ll loosen up I bet (said jokingly).
S: Don’t brood about it, we are here for you. It’s 100% fun!
E: It’s like killing two birds with one stone. Learning English
and having fun.
S: (Pretends to look serious) Excuse me Emery, I’d like to add
something, it’s not only two birds but three.
（There’s a big question mark on Emery, Shoji and Mai’s faces.）
M: And what is the other one?
S: Well, our recall and practice will be put off for a week,
which gives us a week to study!
Sh: (Facing Shin and Mai) It cuts both ways, yes, we'll have more
time to study but Emery will be expecting our recall and
practice results to be very good.
（Shin shrugs and smiles.）

クラスにて。
E: ハロー、みんな！レッスンを始める前に、今度行われる今月の
DCECのアクティビティーにみんなにも参加してもらいたいと
思います。（ホワイトボードにある日本語の案内にラーナー
の注意を向けさせ）
（シンはアウトドアレッスンについて読み小躍りして喜んだ。）
S: やった！（試合に勝ったような身ぶりで）いつもDCECのアウト
ドアレッスンを楽しみにしてたんだよな。
M: アウトドアレッスンって何？まったくわかんないわ。
E: わかったわ、じゃあマイのためにまず私がアウトドアレッスンに
ついて説明するから、シンとショージ、手を貸してね。
(S and Sh: 任せといて！)
E: 通常の教室で行うレッスンに代わって、このアウトドアレッスン
は行われます。名前からもお分かりの通り、レッスンはDCECの外で
行われ、ラーナーのみんなは指定された日時に分けられるの。
おもな目的はラーナーのみんなにリラックスした雰囲気の中で
英語のレッスンを受けていただくこと。
S: それに、親しみのあるDCECの他の生徒さんや、ガヴァネスやガ
ヴァナー、スタッフに会うにはいい機会だよ。
Sh: アウトドアレッスンは、ほんと楽しくってゲームも満載だよ。
のんびりしてる暇なんてないから。
S: 二年前、公園でやったんだけど、あのおもしろいゲーム、
「間違い探し」は忘れられないよ。ガヴァネスの一人がウィッグと
ほくろをつけてマリリン・モンローの真似したんだ。
あれはうけたな～!
Sh: 僕は居酒屋でのアウトドアレッスンだったよ。他のラーナーや
ガヴァネスたちとおしゃべりできて楽しかった～。
ゲームの一つに国とその首都についてのものがあったけど、
僕勘がよくてね。それにビールが僕のことが大好きでさ！
（ビールが大好きだということを逆にいって）
E: さてと、マイどう思う？二人の話で行きたくなった？
M: えぇ。（震えた声で）今回はパスするわ、私ほんとに恥ずかしが
り屋だから。（そんな勇気はないという表情で）
Sh: 内気なのはほんの一時だけよ、ベストを尽くそうと頑張る他の
人達から刺激を受けるから。それに、お酒を飲んでるうちに、
打ち溶けて話せるようになること間違いなしよ。（冗談っぼく）
S: そう考え込まないこと。僕らがいるんだから。100%楽しいって！
E: 一石二鳥よ。英語を学んで同時に楽しむ。
S: （まじめな顔つきを装い）あのー、エメリー、ひとつ付け加えても
いいかな。二鳥だけじゃなくて三鳥だよ。
（エメリー、ショージ、マイの顔に大きな？マークが浮かぶ。）
M: もう一つって？
S: うん、リコール＆プラクティスが一週間延びるから、あと一週間
勉強できる！
Sh:（シンとマイの方を向き）それもろ刃の剣だよ、僕らはもっと勉強
する時間があるけど、エメリーはリコール＆プラクティスで僕らが
いい点とれるだろうって期待しちゃうよ。
（シンは肩をすくめて笑う。）
