U: I have good and bad news for you…
T: I hope that the bad news is not that terrible.
Hmmm…I want to hear the good news first.
U: My hubby and I witnessed the fireworks show in Adachi ward. It was really an hour of fantastic display of flashes along the Arakawa River!
T: I hope you observed also how the calm river water reflected the fireworks’ flashes. It’s like a mirror image!
U: We did not notice that but you have a different perspective in seeing things. Like most spectators do, our heads were glued looking up in the sky.
T: (Trying to assert…) A…ha! I think I can guess your bad news…you are now having a stiff neck.
U: Nope! My neck is perfectly fine. I feel bad about the photographs I took last Thursday - Most of them were distorted shots.
T: Don’t feel bad, those are just pictures, what matters most is that you had a good time watching the show with your hubby.
U: I know…but a picture speaks a thousand words - I wanted to capture the mesmerizing and colorful shower of explosions.
T: As far as I know, the key in getting tact and sharp fireworks photo is to use a tripod. A slightest movement when hand-holding the camera could unintentionally ruin a shot.
U: Really? My camera is equipped with VR function.
T: Well…well…the vibration reduction feature will not work well if your shutter speed is too slow let say…few seconds to 30 seconds!
U: Ah…that’s explains why I got blurry shots.
T: Even if you are using a tripod it is wise to use a remote control or the camera’s timer when taking pictures to avoid extraneous movement.
U: If I follow your friendly advice, will it guarantee a good shot?
T: Maybe, but you need to consider also your lens aperture, focal length, ISO, shutter speed and other camera settings…remember, practice makes perfect!

U: よいニュースと悪いニュースがあるんだけど…
T: その悪いニュースがそれほど酷いものじゃなければいいけど。
う～ん…先によいニュースが聞きたいな。
U: 足立区でだんなと二人で花火を見たの。
それは荒川に沿って打ち上げられた、本当にすばらしい花火の時間だったわ！
T: 静かに流れる川に反映する花火の光にも気がついたら良かったけど・・。鏡みたいでしょ！
U: それは気がつかなかったわ。でもあなたは物を見る視点が違うね。
ほとんどの観客のように、私たちの目は空にくぎ付けだったわ。
T: (断言しようとする…) あ…は! 悪いニュースがわかったような気がする…それであなたの首が凝っているとか。
U: ブブー。 私の首はまったくもって問題なし。先週の木曜に撮った写真が気に入らないの‐それらのほとんどが歪んでしまって。
T: 気にしなくていいよ、それらはただの写真で、一番大切なのはあなたがご主人と花火大会を楽しんだということだよ。
U: わかってるけど…でも写真はたくさんの思い出を語ってくれるから‐魅力的でカラフルな連発の花火を捕えたかったのに。
T: ぼくが知っている限りでは、うまく、はっきりした花火の写真を撮るコツは三脚を使うことだよ。手で持っているときのほんの少しの揺れが気付かないうちにショットを台無しにしているんだ。
U: そうなの？私のカメラは手ぶれ補正機能がついてるのに。
T: ん…えっと…もしシャッターのスピードが遅すぎると、例えば数秒から３０秒くらいだと、手ぶれ補正機能はうまくいかないことがあるんだよ！
U: あ～…だからピンぼけだったんだわ。
T: 三脚を使ったとしても、外部の振動を避けるために、写真を撮るときはリモートコントロールかカメラのタイマーを使うのが賢明だね。
U: あなたの親切なアドバイスの言うとおりにすれば必ずよい写真が撮れる？
T: たぶん、でもレンズ口径、焦点距離、ISO、シャッターのスピードやそれ以外のカメラ環境も考えないとだめだね…練習するのが一番だってこと忘れないで！
U: そうね！
