E: Hi Ayu, you are a bit early today. How’s the weather?
A: It started to snow. (removing her scarf). It might get colder
later.
E: Oh, that’s good news for some who like snow but bad news for us
going home later. Anyway, would you like to join me for a coffee
klatch?
A: What do you mean?
Emery approaches a small table with a ground coffee container in her
left hand. She then invites Ayu to the table.
E: Coffee klatch means drinking coffee and talking. You can enjoy
a cup of coffee and you can use this coffee machine with your eyes
closed. First, you have to open this lid and place the ground
coffee container inside and then close the lid. Place an empty
paper cup here and press this button. Wait for a few seconds and
presto you have a hot cup of coffee!
A: (closes her eyes to smell the coffee). The aroma entices me.
I want to give it a try.
E: Go ahead. Which one do you like?
A: Can I have the opinion of a coffee expert?
E: I’ll go with French Roast if you like a slightly bitter coffee.
If you are on the healthy side, I'll go with Organic coffee.
By the way, tea is also available.
A: I’ll have Organic coffee for a change.
Suddenly the elevator opens.
K: Hi Ayu and Emery! It’s so cold outside. (Looked bemused upon
seeing the cup of coffee in Ayu’s hand). Where did you get that?
Light bulb flashes in Emery’s mind.
E: Ladies, why don’t we have a demonstration class in English?
Ayu will show Kinue how to use this coffee machine.
A: (gaped for a few seconds) Err. In English?
E: But of course! Seize a chance to practice English. You can do it!
After the demo, Ayu got the thumbs up from Emery and Kinue.
K: Great job Ayu!
E: Oh, we only have a few minutes left before the class. Enjoy your
drinks. I’ll see you in a while.
A: Oh geez! I do not have time to do the homework. I was supposed to
do it. That’s why I came early today. What should I do?
E: It’s OK. You can give it to me after the class if you have time.

E: ハ～イ、アユ。今日はちょっと早いじゃない。天気はどう？
A: 雪が降り始めたわ。（マフラーを外し）しばらくしたらもっと寒く
なるかも。
E: あら～、雪が好きな人にはいいニュースだけど、後で帰る私たちに
とってはあんまりよくないわね。それはそうと一緒にコーヒークラッチ
しない？
A: どういうこと？
エメリーは手にコーヒー一杯分の入った容器を持ち小さなテープルに近
づき、アユを呼ぶ。
E: コーヒークラッチっていうのはコーヒーを飲みながらおしゃべりする
ことよ。コーヒーを飲むのを満喫できるわよ、それにこのコーヒー
メーカー、目をつぶったままでも使えるんだから。まず、このふたを
開けて、このコーヒーの容器をセットしてまたふたをするの。ここに
紙コップを置いて、このボタンを押す。数秒待ったら、ほ～らコーヒー
の出来上がりよ！
A:（目を閉じてコーヒーの香りを嗅ぐ）この香りがまたたまらないわね。
私も試してみたい。
E: どうぞ。どれがお好み？
A: コーヒー専門家の意見を聞いても？
E: ちょっと苦味が利いたコーヒーが好きならフレンチロースト、健康志向
であれば有機栽培コーヒーね。ちなみに紅茶もあるわよ。
A: じゃあ気分転換に有機栽培コーヒーにするわ。
と突然エレベーターが開く。
K: ハイ、アユにエメリー！外は滅茶苦茶寒いわよ。（アユがコーヒーを
持っているのを見て困惑した様子で）あれっ、それどうしたの？
エメリーがピンとひらめく。
E: そうだ二人とも、クラスで英語でデモンストレーションするってのは
どうかしら？アユがキヌエにこのコーヒーメーカーの使い方を教えるの。
A:（しばらく口をポカンと開け）えー。英語で？
E: もちろん！でも英語を練習するいい機会じゃない。大丈夫よ！
デモ後、アユはエメリーとキヌエから上出来だったと褒められた。
K: よくできたじゃない、アユ！
E: あら、クラスが始まるまでもうちょっとしかないわ。コーヒー楽しん
でね。じゃ、また後で。
A: やだ～！宿題する時間ないわ。やるつもりで早く来たのに。どうしよう。
E: いいわ。時間があるならレッスンの後でもいいわよ。
デモが上出来だったから。
A: ありがとう、エメリー！ところで、この有機栽培コーヒー美味しい！
K: フレンチローストも！
