At the vegetable store...
T: (Tapping the shoulders of Dinoh)...Look there is something
peculiar in that corner.
D: Oh yeah! A pretty model on the poster!
T: Nope, your wandering eyes caught the wrong thing. This store
offers surprises and excitement more than that poster.
D: Really? What is more exciting than staring at attractive models
in print advertisements or beautiful shoppers? Hahaha!
(looking at women shoppers)
T: C'mon, you are not taking me seriously. Don't you see those
tiny green cabbages?
D: You mean beside the cauliflower?
T: Eureka! You've found it! Finally, you are with me.
D: Let's go over there and investigate our new find.
T: (holding a pack of the vegetable) Hmmm, they are vibrantly
verdant and cute young cabbages.
D: (scratching his head) I say...baby cabbages. Like baby corn
or baby carrot. Those vegetables could be harvested while still
immature and sold at a higher retail price.
T: Or probably it is a product of miniaturization. Everything is
getting smaller these days!
D: Yeah, maybe you got a point there. People want things to come
in small packages for convenience. I have another guess.
This is a new cultivar of cabbage that has been recently
approved for release commercially.
T: (nodding his head then suddenly stopped) But wait, if this is
a new cabbage cultivar, why is it placed in a separate shelf?
There are so many cabbages on the other shelves.
D: Hmmm...maybe they are providing more options for customers to
choose from.
(Karen is approaching towards Tre and Dinoh's direction...)
K: Hey, guys! What are you up to? You look so puzzled, as if you
were solving a million dollar question.
T & D: Precisely!
T: We are discussing these tiny green balls...I mean these
miniaturized cabbages, young cabbages, or baby cabbages,
whatever…We are completely baffled by this exotic-looking
cabbage!
D: (staring blankly at Karen) No idea either...maybe...maybe...
(hesitantly blurted) is it a hybrid cabbage?
K: Ah!... you mean this one (holding a pack)?
T & D: (nodding at the same time)
K: (teasing T & D) the answer to your puzzle is...is...is...
T & D: C'mon... this is not a dumb and dumber quiz show...
K: Believe it or not...these are Brussels sprouts!
T: (in doubt...) Not a cabbage? Are you certain about that?
K: I am a vegetarian but these sprouts do not fit well in my
palate.
T: But they are very similar to the normal cabbage.
K: Well, looks can be deceiving… Brussels sprouts or buds belong
to the same family of crucifers, which include your favorite
cabbage, broccoli, collard greens, kale, cauliflower & kohlrabi.
D: Dude... don't argue with her. She is also an agronomist...and
... the store is about to end its business day!
T: Right! Thanks for broadening my horizons, Karen. Time to grab
a pack of Brussels sprouts.

T: ちがうよ、きみの落ち着きのない目は間違ったものを捕えたね。
この店にはあのポスターよりも驚きとわくわくするものがあるんだよ。
D: そうなの？プリントされたモデルか、買い物中の美しい女性を眺める
の、どっちがお好み？ははは！(女性客を見ている)
T: おいおい、ぼくの言うことを真剣に聞いてないだろ。あの特別に小さい
キャベツが見えてない？
D: カリフラワーのとなりにあるやつのこと？
T: そうだよ！ 見つけたね! やっと話が通じたよ。
D: あそこに行って新しい発見を調査しようぜ。
T: (１袋の野菜を抱えて) んんん、あれは青々として、可愛く若い
キャベツだね。
D: (頭をかきながら) そうだな…ベビーキャベツとでも言うかな。
ベビーコーンやベビーキャロットみたいなね。そのような野菜は未熟
な間に収穫して、高い小売価格を付けることができるんだよね。
T: もしくは、商品の縮小化かな。最近はなんでも小さくなっているからね。
D: うん、そうかもしれないね。利便性を考えて人々は小さいパッケージを
好んでいるよね。ぼくはもう一つ考えていることがあるよ。これは
新しい品種のキャベツで、ここ最近、商業化のために売り出したとか。
T: (首を振って、突然止まる) ちょっと待って、でももしこれが新しい
品種のキャベツだとすれば、なぜ別の棚に置いてあるのかな？ほかの
棚にたくさんのキャベツがあるのに。
D: んんん…たぶん、豊富な種類の中からお客さんに選んでもらうのが
狙いだとか。(カレンがトレとディノに近づいてくる…)
K: こんにちは、お二人さん！ 何しているの？100万ドルのクイズを
解いているように、困った様子ね。
T & D: その通り！
T: あの小さな緑色のボールについて話していたんだ…つまりミニチュア
サイズのキャベツか、若いキャベツか、ベビーキャベツか、何でも
いいんだけど…ぼくらは完全にこの魅力的なキャベツに戸惑って
いるんだ。
D: (ぽかんとカレンを見ている) ぼくにもわからない…たぶん…たぶん…
(ためらいながら言う) それってハイブリッドキャベツ?
K: ああ！…もしかして、これのこと(袋を持っている)?
T & D: (同時にうなづく)
K: (TとDをからかう)あなたたちのなぞなぞの答えは…は…は…
T & D: おい…これは誰が一番バカかっていうクイズショーじゃないん
だけど…
K: 信じるか信じないか…これらは芽キャベツよ!
T: (疑い深い感じで…) キャベツじゃない？ それって間違いないの？
K: 私はベジタリアンだけど、この芽は口に合わないのよ。
T: でもこれらは普通のキャベツにとても似ているよ。

言うけど,これはアブラナ科の植物と同じ分類に入るの。それはあ
なたたちの好きなキャベツ、ブロッコリ、コラードグリーン、ケール、
カリフラワーにコールラビよ。
D: おまえ…彼女と議論するなよ。彼女は農学者でもあるからな…それに
店はもうすぐ閉店の時間だよ。
T: そうだね！ぼくの視野を広げてくれてありがとう、カレン。芽キャベツ
を一袋持って帰る時間だ。
