E: How are you, both? We missed you last week, Mi-chan.
You did
not show up for the class. Were you all right?
M: Sorry about last week. Something unexpected came up, which required my presence and supervision.
E: I hope it is O.K. now.
M: Actually, my daughter had a traffic accident. I was about to leave the house when I received a call from a policeman who broke the news.
E: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
S: (Curious) Was she injured?
M: You could say that. She underwent surgery due to a fractured leg a day after the accident.
S: How terrible for her! She must have been in pain.
M: She was, but she is recovering fast. I think she's suffering from the trauma more than the physical pain it gave her.
E: I could only imagine. (Trying to cheer her learner up)
Well, I'm sure that with you around to care for her, she'll recuperate and get over her traumatic experience in no time.
M: I wish I had your confidence, Euneece.
S: So where is she now? Still in the hospital?
M: She was discharged yesterday and is taking things easy at home.
S: Is her leg in plaster cast?
M: Yes, and it's difficult for her to move on crutches.
The doctor said she'd be in that state for at least a month or so.
E: Were there other casualties, Mi-chan?
M: Fortunately, none. She was alone in the car, which was a wreck after crushing it into a tree at the side of the road.
S: What a horrifying scene!
M: It was a miracle she survived with only some cuts and bruises here and there, and of course, a fractured leg.
E: Well, we hope she'll recover fast and move on with her second life.
M: I hope so, too.

M: 先週は失礼しました。ちょっと予想外のことが起きて、どうしても私が居て指示しなくてはならなかったので。
E: もう大丈夫なんでしょうね。
M: 実は、娘が交通事故にあってしまったんです。ちょうど家を出るときに警察から連絡が入ってその知らせを聞いたんです。
E: えー、それは気の毒に。
S: (気にかけて) 彼女にけがは？
M: したと言えるわね。足を骨折したから、事故の翌日に手術を受けたわ。
S: それはひどいな！ 痛かっただろうね。
M: そうだったけど、早々回復しているわ。事故で負った身体的な痛みより、心的外傷に苦しんでいるわ。
E: 想像しかできないけど。 (自分のラーナーを元気づける) そう、あなたがそばにいて看病してあげているから、きっと彼女は立ち直って、すぐにトラウマを乗り越えられるわよ。
M: あなたの自信をもらえればね、ユニース。
S: ところで彼女は今どこなの？ まだ病院？
M: 昨日退院して、家で安静にしているわ。
S: ギブスはしているの？
M: ええ、だから松葉杖で歩くのが難しいみたい。医者は最低１ヵ月くらいはその状態が続くと言ってたわ。
E: 他に外傷者はいたの、ミィちゃん？
M: 幸いにもいなかったの。彼女は車に一人乗っていて、道路脇にあった木に激突して車がひどい状態になったの。
S: 何て恐ろしい状況なんだ！
M: 数か所のあざと切り傷、もちろん骨折もあったけど、それだけで命が助かったのは奇跡よ。
E: そうね、彼女が早く回復して、次の人生に進めるように私たちは願うわ。
M: 私もそうおもうわ。
